When I right-click on the start icon and pick search, Cortana pops up. Name the New Folder as SystemApps. So right now I can switch her on and off at will, but as I say, I'm not sure I believe Microsoft meant this to happen or that it will keep working indefinitely. I'd suggest disabling windows search and the searching services as well, since they won't work anyway. I mean, you cannot use Cortana to shutdown or , you cannot ask Cortana to open a file or program, cannot uninstall programs using Cortana, etc.

And the additiopn os Power shell replacing that stupid metro start interface is a god-send! I don't suggest modifying system files just to remove a feature. Try to play a video game and the game just freezes before getting to main menu no error, just hangs and I have to force close it. If you are super-duper cautious, backup your system. Yes, that is correct and I myself also restored Cortana shortly after disabling it after finding the same result. I'm not going to try and confirm this now that I have it disabled again.
This worked perfectly for me. At least, until the next windows update. I turned Cortana into what had been good, old-fashioned Windows search the day I set up Windows 10. They do make the best pets, with dogs being second, and men being third. If you want to do a Google search then open a web browser of your choice and do it. How do you expect to have search working if you remove Cortana? If you are Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise user, follow the group policy editor.
It bears mentioning that removing Cortana will break the Default Taskbar in weird ways. Agree and second Brians comment. Virtual assistant voice also keyboard activated search software which is supposed to answer questions phrased in normal human language. Even Microsoft knows this and separating Windows search and Cortana. It is full of detailed guides.
