This is evident in the Preset Manager which houses hundreds of presets made by the team and other professionals. Upon clicking each module, the screen below will change to suit the controls of each type of processor. This is really for that last stage of perfecting your mix or master, just to get it sitting nicely in the same range as your reference. Some tools are simply the ones that you should have. You can now compare your mix against a reference track of your choice, within an instance of Ozone 8.
The Gain Reduction Trace is the scrolling meter across the top that works as a very keen visual display of how the compression is affecting the signal. Sometimes I make just a few tweaks and other times I start from scratch. I was positively surprised with the new Neutron 2, as they have added some really cool new features while tweaking all the things users complained about in the first one. To start the process, select the type of instrument, the style, and the intensity. A clever algorithm attempts to work out verses and choruses and sets appropriate loop points. What I will say is that what it does get right, it gets right masterfully.
Fig 2 The basic layout of Neutron, with the five main processor slots upper left , the main work area lower left , and the output section right. The Spectral Shaper is a new addition in this version. The more powerful our tools are the more we need this type of Groove 3 videos. In the main plug-in, as I mentioned above, a new Gate module has been added. Multi-band mode can also be accessed by clicking the number next to the threshold of each compressor section at the bottom.
Ozone is a world class mastering suite with all the tools you need to take a mix to the final stage of perfection before you release it. This communication between instances of Neutron enables a brand new feature, the Visual Mixer. Feedback for the limiter will show up in orange, indicating controls and meters specific to limiting. In terms of precision troubleshooting, though, I reckon Neutron still has the edge. Ozone 8 Advanced comes with each module as a component plug-in, allowing you to use any piece of Ozone independently in your session.
These only apply to stereo plug-in instances. These extras come in the form of standalone plugins that are capable of interlinking Neutron and Ozone instances on a track for faster workflows. It s a quick and understandable way to learn how to use them and be back to making music making with the benefits of mastered new tools of the trade! Using the list above, different versions can be compared to see which versions come standard with what. You still need skill and a good ear to create and balance a good mix. There are three different Mix Snapshots that you can use to compare different figurations of the mix.
A skilled mixing engineer will mostly remove most settings that where applied by the Track Assistant and tweak the plug-in by own preference. Working through each channel, we hit play and then hit the Track Assistant button, which takes between four and 10 seconds to analyse the content, then assigns a category to the Spectral Shaping section. I have wasted a great deal of money on other things. At this point, all trust has to be placed in iZotope that the compression settings on each band are optimal but since Neutron gives so much control over features, why not this? The Track Assistant is interesting and can be a good starting point but we should not expect miracles. Free video course : Hi Jay - Apart from the Surround capability, the Advanced version includes the individual processor plug-ins.
The instrument window gives the option to allow Neutron to detect the type of instrument or select the instrument manually. Low-level plugins just cannot compete with Neutron 2. So far so good, if a little predictable. It is a Spectral Shaper, that in solo mode allows you to spot that problematic area by playing just the selected frequency range. The results from this process are generally pretty good but will only ever serve as a starting point for you to work from. This plugin has cut countless plugins out of my signal chain. Combined with the fact that it can run in multi band mode there are no open wishes and the gate module is a great addition and very powerful.
One caveat to using the learn feature is that it only functions for multiband applications. Typically this results in an undulating display that looks a bit like a punch-up behind a thick curtain! As already mentioned does the output or master section contain a brick wall limiter. From there it is possible to sum and visually mix all individual channels together. The spectrum graph displays audio signal and multiband crossover points. With three powerful Emphasis modes, a unique, multiband blend interface featuring Tape, Tube, and two special iZotope algorithms, you can fine-tune the color of your saturation to suit the needs of your track. It was at its best on unpitched sources, though, since it was heavily swayed by the spectral peaks of specific pitches in the few seconds of audio it analysed, and pitches often vary a great deal between different arrangement sections in a real musical context. It is dun to work with and easy to learn, and also worth every dollar it costs! You can tell the algorithm what the instrument is, or choose auto-detect.
Of course, Maximizer is not the only one that comes with all sorts of additional options, controllers and tools that can be tweaked in a various ways allowing you to go as deep as you want. It offers a nice set of tools for fine tuning just that frequency range by applying spectral reducing. The only time we found ourselves really dialling it back significantly was where Neutron had applied some tube excitement to a drum buss, and the subby kick drum was saturating a bit too much for our liking. And until robots start acquiring a taste for music of their own, we hope that great music will continue to be made. Actually, while covering the first version of Neutron, I knew that it was only a matter of time before a similar function would be implemented in Ozone. No I can't wait to start a next mix with it. Tape is brighter and simulates magnetic tape saturation without the artifacts, and Retro is the edgiest and inspired by transistors to add bite to signal.
